2018 CASTS Symposiums on Environmental Flows

Following the 2016 and 2017 Symposiums on Environmental Flows, the Center for Advanced Study in Theoretical Sciences (CASTS) will host a short course on Environmental Flows on October 22-23, 2018. This year’s theme is “Oceanic Mixing and Stratified Turbulence”. The invited lecturer is Professor Michael Gregg from University of Washington. There will be three 2-hour lectures. The topics are: (1) Diapycnal mixing and its role in the ocean, (2) What drives diapycnal mixing, and how is it studied, and (3) Global patterns of mixing, case studies, and challenges.

The aim of this short course is two-fold: to introduce the topics of environmental fluid dynamics to students and young researchers, and to promote interactions among researchers in environmental fluid dynamics and mathematical/computational sciences. Students, young and senior researchers are all welcome to participate.

Date: October 22 - 23, 2018

Location: Room 101, Mathematics Research Center Building, NTU

Sponser: Center for Advanced Study in Theoretical Sciences (CASTS), NTU

Organizers:  Shih-Nan Chen  (Institute of Oceanography, National Taiwan University)

Wu-Ting Tsai  (Department of Engineering Science and Ocean Engineering, National Taiwan

    University)
